On peine à voir, alors on écoute. Le son de l’eau d’abord nous accompagne, puis le bruissement de la forêt au loin nous parvient. L’œil cherche, puis s’habitue, la barque glisse, les reflets à la surface de l’eau nous guident. L’on perçoit maintenant les formes sombres des berges boisées qui nous entourent, nous nous en approchons, nous entendons de plus en plus de choses mais que nous ne voyons pas encore, nous pénétrons l’intérieur de la nuit.

Woods & Waters est un film de paysage. Entre documentaire scientifique et essai poétique, le film est un hommage au travail photographique de l’américain George Shiras, pionnier de la wildlife photography à la fin du 19ème siècle.

A rowboat starts to slide, the water slips along the hull. It is at night, around the stretch of water, the landscape gently begins to move, the wooded banks, the fields of long grass, the rocky cliffs. Everything moves, everything lives around us. The shooting team moves slowly and silently. Hunting can then begin…

Woods & Waters is a landscape film. Between scientific documentary and poetic essay, the film is a tribute to the photographic work of the American George Shiras, pioneer of wildlife photography at the end of the 19th century.
